Is Profhilo the new botox?

Profhilo has been taking the nation by storm for many months now, but how does botox stand up in comparison? Do we have a new favourite?

It is hard to directly compare the two as they are such different treatments! But we have put together some information on both treatments for you.

What is Profhilo?

Essentially, we describe Profhilo as an injectable moisturiser. It is perfect for brightening the skin, adding a dewy glow and smoothing fine lines. It is made up of pure hyaluronic acid that is injected just under the surface of the skin to then dissipates under the surface of the skin to enhance it. It can be used on the face, neck and décolletage.

Unlike filler, Profhilo does not change the way you look or change the structure of your face, it simply leaves you looking dewy and refreshed.

What is botulinum  toxin?

Botulinum toxin is a toxin that is injected usually into the upper face, to inhibit the movement of your muscles to help prevent lines forming or deepening. This will also soften static lines and give you a fresher appearance but, does not contain any skin boosters such as hyaluronic acid.

Botox is also great for medical treatments, such as TMJ where you have strong masseter muscles and clench the jaw a lot, or hyperhydrosis where you sweat uncontrollably and excessively. Botox is also known to help relieve the symptoms of migraines which is growing increasingly more popular as GPs will now refer this.

What are the big differences?

Botox is injected into one area and stays there, to inhibit the targeted muscle, where as Profhilo is a full face treatment.

Botox helps dynamic lines and although it can help soften static lines, these lines can not be eliminated with botox injections as they are already there when the muscle is at rest.

Profhilo helps to give the skin a glow, and works as a full face treatment that does soften the finer lines, however it will not act as a preventative, so if you see the lines forming it may be best to consider botox as your next treatment to stop them in their tracks.
