Everyone wants value for money, and to get the most out of your treatments, but how can we guarantee longevity of our dermal fillers?

How do Dermal Fillers work?

Dermal fillers are a gel like substance of concentrated hyaluronic acid that in injected directly under the skin. Hyaluronic acid is naturally occurring in our bodies and is what gives our face a plump, youthful look. Because HA is naturally occurring, over time our bodies break it down, so you will not notice any sudden loss of volume, over the 6-18 months it takes to gradually breakdown.

How can I make my fillers last?

My top five tips for looking after your fillers are:

  1. Avoid UV rays! Don’t spend too much time with your face in the sun. Always, always wear your SPF. Not just on your face, make sure you use a SPF lip balm too.

  2. Drink plenty of water. HA based fillers such as Juvederm work by using the water naturally stored in our tissues, by drinking plenty of water after having a dermal filler treatment it helps the filler hold its chaos and last for longer. Juvederm actually attracts water from to keep your filler looking fresh and full.

  3. Keep healthy, by having a good diet and avoiding excess sugar you will look after your skin better and help get the best results out of your treatment. By avoiding excessive salt and alcohol after treatment, this will also help reducing swelling, bruising and discomfort post treatment.

Finally - Book in for regular treatments! By having little and often treatments, it will help maintain the integrity of the fillers and you will not have to have higher amounts of filler each time, saving you money and allowing you to get the most out of a treatment plan by adding structure and shape to your features.

What are the Do’s and Don’ts prior and post treatment?

  1. DO - drink plenty of water before and after your treatment

  2. DON’T - touch the treated area immediately post treatment, this will help avoid infection or disturbing the placement of the filler

  3. DO - Ice the treated area to reduce swelling and bruising

  4. DON’T - Drink alcohol for the first 24hrs post treatment or prior to treatment to avoid excessive bruising

  5. DO - Be gentle with your skin care for that day and avoid makeup, an SPF moisturiser or lip balm will be fine.
